The Year in Review

Dear Gospel Community Church, 

We hope and pray that as you take a moment to reflect on this past year at Gospel Community Church with us, that you will be able to acknowledge and celebrate the ways that God has been faithful. The year 2020, for many of us, will be remembered as the year that threatened the fabric of our way of life. For some, that causes a great deal of hopelessness but, for followers of Jesus, we can rest assured that our hope is not in this world but in the person of Jesus Christ. This is not to suggest that there has not been pain, suffering, and hardship, but amidst it all, God has been renewing us. 

Included in this impact report is our attempt to testify to some of the things God has been doing in and through our church family. We pray that it will be an inspiration to you not just to celebrate God’s goodness to GCC, but also to testify to the many ways God has been faithful to you throughout 2020.

We leave you with this encouragement as we press on into the newness God has planned for 2021. Isaiah 43:19, “Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” 

Keep your eyes open for God to continue to make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. He is waiting for us there.

THE WORD & COMMUNITY

Launched the Gospel Audio Podcast
The Discipleship Team leveraged the new Gospel Audio Podcast to shepherd our church family through the initial days of the COVID-19 pandemic, help us respond to the racial unrest in our country, and help us engage with the Christmastime season.

Guides
We worked through two??? guides - Driven by Mission prayer guide and the Advent guide.

D-Groups Helped Meet a Need During Spring of 2020
We created small groups for people who were isolated at home to engage with.

FAMILY MINISTRIES

Village 434 Grows
In 2020, 30 children from hard places have been cared for by families at Gospel Community Church. The Village 434 team of volunteers has expanded to include approximately 60 people, and with the help of that team four connect nights for our foster and adoptive families were hosted. Every single child that has come through care has experience the love of Christ, one was adopted, and another baptized into her eternal family!

Youth Baptisms
Five youth were baptized into their eternal family in 2020. Praise God!

Kid City & Gospel Student Ministries Pivot to Serve Families
Although family ministry has not looked the same in 2020, our family ministries teams have pivoted to continue to provide spiritual resources and support to our families. Kid City puts together weekly sermon discussion guides and a short Kid City video to speak directly to kids 5th grade and younger. GSM has adapted so they can continue to meet weekly on Thursday nights and Sunday morning.

LOCAL OUTREACH

Connecting Point Met Needs During Pandemic
In response to COVID-19, the Local Outreach Team met dozens of new families in need of food through the Connecting Point, and didn't miss a beat in continuing to provide enough food to our community through our food pantry.

Fall Festival Success 
As a result of our Fall Festivals at both locations, our church was able to make meaningful relational connections with our neighbors. At GCCH, we continue to establish relationships with neighbors and make it clear we care about that community. At GCR, feedback from the neighborhood told us that Gospel's continued presence in our community has established trust within our community and is helping to cultivate a sense of belonging for families that live here.

Ownership: Recipients Becoming Volunteers 
One word: "OWNERSHIP.  Those who were once neighbors, are now a part of our family here at GCC, have served in important volunteer roles, and continue to take ownership over the ministries they are part of here at Gospel Community Church.

Continued Development of Community Relationships 
The Local Outreach teams at both GCCH and GCR have cultivated relationships with and recruited multiple organizations that will serve to bring needed resources to our neighborhoods.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Ministry Residency Expands
GCC was able to host a third and fourth residency cohort and pour into a total of eleven residents in 2020. Ministry residents serve and lead in everything from church planting, local outreach, creating prayer and discipleship guides, and more. Our fourth cohort is our largest yet and we have seen residents go on to do great things for the Kingdom! (See Eric's story above!)

Gospel Community Providence Expands
Even in the midst of the pandemic, and in an area dealing with particularly high spread, Gospel Community Providence has been able to expand their ministry to include a physical meeting space and high quality online worship experience.

GLOBAL OUTREACH

Uganda Short-Term Outreach Trip
Early in 2020, we sent a team of 12 to Uganda to work alongside one of our global partners, Pastor Geoff. Through this trip, we were able to help put finishing touches on a new church building on the land we helped him secure, be an encouragement to him and his congregation, and serve and disciple those in his community.

Four Church-Wide Virtual Missions Trips
The Global Outreach team took our entire church family on four virtual missions trips in the fall of 2020, which highlighted our partners in Nepal, Colorado, Mexico, and Moldova.

COVID-19 Relief to Six Partners Around the Globe
Through our COVID-19 Relief Fund, we were able to bless six partners around the globe who were particularly struggling with the effects of the virus.

Worship Gatherings

  • At GCR and GCCH we saw tremendous resiliency and adaptability from our hospitality teams as they adjusted to the COVID-19 guidelines and continued to welcome our guests.
  • Despite COVID restrictions, we are able to host nearly 700 people each Sunday between our two locations and four services.

Communication


  • GCC launched a new app and website in 2020 which included a new user-friendly giving platform. 
  • Thanks to God's hand, we were already fully funded and positioned to launch online services at our Rivermont location the week everything shut down in response to the pandemic. Praise God! Only Him! We've learned a lot over the year and were able to implement a similar system at our College Hill location as well.

Operations


  • God continues to provide opportunities for us to partner with local organizations through the use of our space. At GCCH, we host four local organizations, and at GCR we host three. These partnerships allow us to bless local Christ-centered organizations with affordable space, and help offset operational costs of our facilities.
