Divine Nature

As we study God’s Word, we see the Lord’s ultimate authority and power interlaced throughout Scripture. The Lord is sovereign, all-powerful, transcendent, omniscient, and so much more.

A.W. Tozer writes in his book, Knowledge of the Holy, “God is said to be absolutely free because no one and no thing can hinder Him or compel Him or stop Him. He is able to do as He pleases always, everywhere, forever. To be thus free means also that He must possess universal authority.”

I’ve been meditating on the characteristics of God lately. Friends, the thing is, God’s nature is immeasurably more than all that we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). It is out of our own inability to ever hold or even come close to holding God. It has nothing to do with Him; it has everything to do with us. There are restrictions to us but the Lord is incalculable. That’s the very essence of Him – He will never stop. We serve a great and mighty God who is worthy of our praise, honor, and glory.

When we look at the Lord’s majesty, we look through the lens of our human perspective – a restricted understanding. Keep this in mind as you read the following truths.

1. God is never-changing.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

2. God is Holy.
“There is no one Holy like the Lord, indeed, there is no one besides You, nor is there any rock like our God.” (1 Samuel 2:2)

3. God is Faithful.
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations…” (Deuteronomy 7:9)

4. God is Love.
“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” (1 John 4:16)

5. God is perfect in all of His ways.
“The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.” (Deuteronomy 32:4)

And our response? A collective act of worship. May we never lose our wonder for the Lord in a reality that we will never fully reach.
